How to have a relationship
We live in a world that has largely thrown away all restraint. Just watch the news and you will see the terror that afflicts the world we live in. This is because we have lost sight of God; we have turned our backs in rebellion against the one who loves us – God. The Bible calls this separation sin, ‘For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.’ (Romans 3:23)
It is time for us to find out who God is again.
God is a relational being and longs to have relationship with us. This is why he created the world we live in. When God created the world however he gave only one rule at the time, that rule was not to eat from the tree that gave the knowledge of good and evil. God walked and talked with those he created and loved them greatly but sadly they broke his heart one day by eating from the tree they were told not to. This meant that the relationship between God and his creation became warped; the rest of the bible tells the story of the ultimate rescue mission of all time. It is about God working to restore people back to himself.
The penalty for disobeying God is death; this is why God sent his son Jesus Christ, God in the flesh. Jesus was a man who never broke Gods law, the perfect sacrifice. He died a criminal’s death on the cross and rose again three days later. He died so that we could have life and relationship with God as it was intended in the beginning.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son so that whoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16)
If you would like a relationship with the living God, the way it was intended then the way to start is to thank God for all he has done, confess the things you have done that separate you from God, believe in Jesus Christ and what he did for us and commit to follow his ways.
Here is an example of what you may want to pray…
Dear God,
Thank you for creating me and the world I live in.
Thank you for sending your son Jesus to die on the cross so that I could have relationship with you.
I am sorry for the things that I have done that stop me knowing you and I ask that you will show me what these things are. I commit to finding out what your ways are God and to following you from this day on.
Lord please help me to know you more and thank you for your beautiful gift of salvation.
Amen
